Jacob Lobner - vocals\nStig Nielsen - guitar\u002Fvocals\nMads Vigeholm - guitar\nBrian Stilling - bass\nMikkel Ib - drums, percussion\nBased in Aarhus, Denmark, the progrock band BOIL plays an ambitious style of progressive rock and metal that balances on the delicate edge of melodic catchiness, intricacy and complexity. With the 5 members drawing from widely different influences, the unique mixture contains elements of both polyrhythmic modern metal, electronica, grunge and classic rock.\nWith a “Debut of the Year” nomination at the DanishMetal Awards in their trophy \nbag, a milky way of stars from the reviewers, and –last but not least – a gig as the \nopening act at Sweden Rock Festival 2008 as well asa concert on the Danish \nSPOT Festival 2009 on the concert list, BOIL, whoseroots are firmly planted in \nAarhus, is certainly not standing outside the spotlight on the Danish rock scene. \nBack in 2004, the common ground for the five guys was to mix genres like metal, \ngrunge, and progressive rock. The sound on the debut album "Vessel" (2007) \nmost definitely lives up to this ambition and resulted in appraisals from the \nreviewers – nationally as well as internationally –and the album earned \nstatements such as “Most professional release of the year” (Musikgeil) and “One \nof the year’s best albums” (Noise.fi). \nBOIL is now ready to release their second album “A New Decay”, which clearly \nshows that the band has personalized their style and sound a lot more, and, in \nmany ways, the new album is harder yet more melodicand catchy than the debut. \nBOIL has produced and mixed the album themselves, while Tue Madsen (The \nHaunted, Mnemic, Halford) did the mastering. \nUnlike most other hardrock and metal bands, BOIL’s lyrical universe requires \nquite a lot of attention from the listener. Most ofthe lyrics on the album are multi-layered and require the listener to think for themselves in order to enjoy the full \noutput of the underlying messages. But it’s worth the effort, as several very \ninteresting themes are raised in the lyrics. One ofthese themes is the modern \ntendency of politicians, the media, religious groups, organizations etc. to rely \nheavily upon spin – often merely for a strict personal gain - thereby making it hard \nfor the public to tell facts from fiction. BOIL describes and invokes images in the \nlyrics without agitating for a specific political doctrine, but rather for a collective, \nmental wake-up call. \nBOIL’s music matches the reflective lyrical universe, and even though the music is \nboth raw and edgy it contains excellent melodies and catchy choruses – and, \nfurthermore, it is spiced up with numerous technical details and tempo changes as \nwell as built-up passages. “A New Decay” ends with a dark, melancholic, fragile \ntrack displaying lots of electronica, and this shows that BOIL is not only difficult to \ndefine but also a complex band in constant movement.
